PUTRAJAYA will address complaints about food quality at hotels used as Covid-19 quarantine centres, said senior minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The matter has been raised with the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), he told a press conference today.

“Nadma has taken action. They have changed the food menu based on complaints of poor food quality,” the defence minister said.

He was asked about complaints posted on social media about poor-quality food given to those under quarantine.

The government reimposed mandatory quarantine on all individuals entering Malaysia from July 24 after finding that several people under home surveillance orders had breached isolation.

From July 24 to August 5, a total of 6,473 individuals have returned to Malaysia.

They have been placed at 26 hotels and five government public training institutes (ILA) in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Johor, Sarawak, Kelantan, Perak and Perlis.

Ismail Sabri said 18 of them were taken to hospital for treatment after testing positive for Covid-19 at border entry points.

He also added that the Health Ministry together with the police conducted 2,018 spot-checks yesterday to ensure compliance with health SOPs.

“One individual has been charged. Police also took action against 31 individuals who violated the home quarantine SOP including leaving the home area.

“An investigation paper has been sent to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action.” – August 6, 2020.
