THE National Unity Ministry will boost the appreciation of the Rukun Negara pillars through the rebranding of Rukun Negara clubs in primary and secondary schools as well as the Rukun Negara secretariat at institutions of higher learning.

Its minister Halimah Mohamed Sadique said the club module and the secretariat also needed to be reevaluated to be in line with the current scenario.

She said the club should also involve all schools, including vernacular schools and not just focus on national schools.

She said her ministry, together with the Communications and Multimedia Ministry, the Education Ministry and the Higher Education Ministry have started discussions to ensure that the principles of Rukun Negara are included in the national education system.

Halimah said this to reporters after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the National Unity Ministry and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia today, to focus on working on updating four documents.

The MoU relates to the preparation of the National Unity Index, the improvement of the National Unity Action Plan, the implementation of the Rukun Negara education based on the Pillars of Unity and the empowerment of the National Integration Research and Training Institute. – Bernama, July 23, 2020.
