MOTORCYCLE theft was the most common crime during during the movement control order (MCO) period, according to the Kuala Lumpur crime index.
Deputy Home Minister Ismail Mohd Said said of the 546 crimes that took place during the period, motorcycle theft occurred the most often.
“According to the crime index statistics, motorcycles were the vehicles most stolen during the MCO,” he told the Dewan Rakyat today.
He was responding to a question from Fong Kui Lun (Bukit Bintang-DAP) on the crime rate during and after the MCO period.
Pandan MP Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail also asked him why the commercial crime such as love scams were not included in the index
Ismail, who is Kuala Kurau MP, said police were considering classifying such cases as serious crime.
He said the police were also looking to educate Malaysian on crime and scams via community policing.
“We have to educate the people using methods like the volunteer corps, police cadets, cadets in universities and auxiliary police. We have to do community policing,” Ismail said. – July 20, 2020.
