New Covid-19 clusters detected in Sepang, KL and Kuching

THREE new Covid-19 clusters have been detected by the Health Ministry – in Sepang, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Kuching.

In Sepang, the new cluster was detected at a construction site, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

As of noon today, 96 workers – nine Malaysians and 87 foreign nationals – have been screened. Of those screened, two workers tested positive for the coronavirus.

Both workers are foreigners – one Indonesian and one Bangladeshi. The foreigners at the construction site comprised 63 Indonesians, 22 Bangladeshis and two Myanmarese. 

The new cluster in Kuala Lumpur was detected at a restaurant in Brickfields. 

Two Indian nationals tested positive for Covid-19 as of noon today, out of the 14 restaurant workers and 236 customers that were screened. 

The new cluster in Kuching was reported at the Kuching Jetty and involved screenings for 25 fishermen, of which two Indonesians tested positive for Covid-19.  

The sources of all infections are being investigated.

The new clusters today add to five new ones announced in the last two days.

On Friday, Noor Hisham announced four new clusters – in Terengganu, Kuala Lumpur, a Kuching medical centre and a ship’s crew in Sarawak waters.

Yesterday, he announced the Stutong cluster in Sarawak involving a market.

The total number of infections stands at 8,779, of which 103 are active after 15 new cases were announced today. One death was also announced, raising the overall toll to 123. – July 19, 2020.
