PUTRAJAYA needs to be careful when tabling motions in parliament, said the leaders of Umno and PAS Youth.

PAS youth chief Khairil Nizam Khiruddin warned the government that it would be difficult for it to pass bills as it did not have majority.

“The government and ministers need to be careful when  they table a motion. There are a lot of people from the opposition who will do their homework,” Khairil said in a forum tonight on Umno Online.

“It is a weak government as we have lesser numbers, especially if we’re going to table motions that are important to the people, like Budget 2021 in November and RMK-12.”

His Umno counterpart Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said it would be humiliating if the administration failed to get the national budget passed.

“The budget will be tabled in November at least 60 times. We don’t expect the (votes of the) 111 (MPs) to stand until November,” he said.

PN’s first motion in parliament, which was to change the house speaker, was passed today with 111 MPs for it and 109 against.

Khairil said he expected the quality of debates and arguments for motions to improve in the coming sessions.

“We are confident the parliamentary sessions after this will be more constructive. The opposition will be prepared and they are apt at making arguments so they will get support,” he said.

Former Election Commission chairman Azhar Azizan Harun replaces Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof as the Dewan Rakyat speaker.

Deputy speaker Nga Kor Ming, who resigned today, is replaced by Azalina Othman Said.
