PRE-DEPORTATION tests for 98 detainees at the Bukit Jalil Immigration detention centre yesterday turned up two cases of Covid-19 infections.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the two Indian nationals tested positive for the coronavirus were sent to the hospital where they would be isolated for two weeks.

He said 91 Indian nationals and seven Nigerians were screened.

Those who have had contact with the infected pair would also be quarantined for two weeks.

“Before we send them back, we will screen them,” he said.

Illegal foreign visitors are screened for the coronavirus before they are detained at the centres.

To date, 1,661 individuals at the Bukit Jalil depot have been screened, 649 of whom tested positive. Three of the infected were Malaysians. – July 10, 2020.
