13 new Covid-19 cases, 12 recoveries

AFTER two days of reporting zero locally transmitted Covid-19 cases, Malaysia today saw five of them among 13 new infections detected today.

With eight other cases being imported, the national tally of infections now stands at 8,696.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today three of the locally transmitted cases involved citizens while two involved foreigners.

The two foreigners had undergone pre-deportation screening at the Bukit Jalil Immigration Depot, where they tested positive for the coronavirus.

As for the three infections involving citizens, two were detected in Sarawak. The two patients with severe acute respiratory infection were admitted to Sarawak General Hospital.

The third case was detected during a pre-employment screening in Kuala Lumpur.

Meanwhile, 12 patients have recovered and been discharged as of noon today.

This brings the total number of recoveries to 8,511, or 97.9% of the cumulative number of cases.

There are 64 active cases in the country.

No fatalities were reported today, keeping the death toll at 121.

Meanwhile, two patients are currently warded in intensive care units and are receiving respiratory support. – July 10, 2020.
