A COVID-19 cluster involving staff of a cleaning company has been fully contained, said Director-General of Health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today.

All four patients in the cluster are Indonesians. Three are employees of the company, while the other is a close contact.

“The cluster was identified after screening was done on 10 employees. It was carried out on the employer’s initiative,” said Dr Noor Hisham.

Thirty-three people, 17 of whom are Malaysians, have been screened in relation to the cluster, which was detected in Kuala Lumpur on March 24, becoming the first among 15 workplace-related coronavirus clusters.

Of these clusters, four have yet to be contained.

The 15 clusters included a Kuala Lumpur construction site, Cheras security guards, a factory in Pedas and the Chow Kit market.

A total of 10,362 people have been screened in relation to the clusters, of whom 4,242, or 40.9%, are Malaysians.

Total infections in the clusters amounted to 722, with the vast majority of them – 600 – being foreigners. Of these cases, 234 are from Bangladesh, Nepal (212), Indonesia (109), Myanmar (36), India (7), and Cambodia and Vietnam (1 each).

Dr Noor Hisham reminded employers to ensure that their workers continue to adhere to health and safety standard operating procedures, and implement measures to prevent infection. – July 9, 2020.
