DIRECTOR-GENERAL of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today declared the tabligh cluster – the country’s largest link of coronavirus infections – has been fully contained with no new infections reported for 28 days.

The last infection was reported on June 11.

“Today is a very meaningful day for the country and we have pulled through together,” he said at the press conference today in Putrajaya.

A total of 42,024 people linked to the cluster were screened for Covid-19, 3,375 of whom tested positive.

Thirty-four deaths were reported in the cluster.

Four months since it was detected, the cluster no longer has active cases.

Dr Noor Hisham said there is a strong possibility that the infection began overseas.

Cases in the cluster and its sub-clusters were detected in seven nations, with 2,550 Malaysians and 825 foreigners from 28 countries infected.

A total of 2,187 patients, or 64.8% of the positive cases in the cluster, were asymptomatic, while 87 required intensive care.

Dr Noor Hisham attributed the success in containing the cluster to efforts by the Health Ministry and government agencies, and thanked the Sri Petaling Mosque committee for its support and cooperation. – July 8, 2020.
