CHOW Kon Yeow has been grilled for four hours by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission on Penang’s undersea tunnel project.
“I gave details about the project. They interviewed me since 9am,” said the chief minister outside the state MACC office today.
“The focus was on the project and confirmation of the executive council’s decision on the project.”
He said he was quizzed on his background.
“They spent 1½ hours asking me about my background, like which school I attended, and excos’ powers.
“They typed out the details, so it took some time.”
He said the graft-busters did not take any documents from him or say if he will be called in again.
Chow’s questioning comes after three excos – Phee Boon Poh, Chong Eng and Jagdeep Singh Deo – yesterday had their statements recorded over the RM6.3 billion project.
Investigations into the undersea tunnel project intensified following the arrest of former Penang Port Commission chairman Jeffrey Chew last week. He was remanded for four days, and released on Saturday.
Corruption allegations were first raised by Malaysia Today blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin in articles last year.
Former chief minister Lim Guan Eng has denied the claims, saying the project, which is part of the Penang Transport Master Plan, was awarded through open tender. He won a defamation suit against Raja Petra in February. – July 7, 2020.
