SELANGOR Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali today dismissed claims that the state administration is unstable, following rumours of a possible change of government in the state.

Azmin, who has just returned from a work trip abroad with several other state assemblymen, said the rumours were merely the attempts of certain quarters trying to destabilise the state government.

“Clearly the general election is very near yet Umno’s wishful thinking is far from reality. Umno thinks that by bullying the state government, we will have problems.

“But it is proven that the state government is stable,” he told reporters at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

He was asked to comment on the PAS and Umno presidents’ statements today that the state administration was shaky and Selangor could see a change of government.

“I’m happy and I have full confidence in Selangor assemblymen who have given their best services. They always focus on work and not on dirty politics like our enemy,” he said.

Azmin also dismissed rumours that PKR assemblymen were trying to remove him from office as “provocation” by those jealous of Selangor’s economic success and united government.

He said unity was among the strengths of the Selangor government, as stated in the latest report by Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER).

“The rakyat mandate is a heavy responsibility that needs to be implemented and this mandate was given to the leadership in the last election. So, we will ensure it is done in the form of programmes and actions that benefit the rakyat.”

Azmin, together with Selangor PAS deputy commissioner Dr Ahmad Yunus and Selangor excos Dr Daroyah Alwi and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, landed at 3.05pm today.

PAS state representatives who came to the airport to show support were Zaidy Abdul Talib (Taman Templer), Dr Halimah Ali (Selat Klang), Abdul Rani Osman (Meru), Khairuddin Othman (Paya Jaras), Hasbullah Ridzwan (Gombak Setia) and Noor Hanim Ismail (Seri Serdang).  State deputy speaker Shafie Ngah, also from the Islamist party, was also present.

PKR assemblymen at the welcoming party included Gan Pei Nei (Rawang), Yaakob Sapari (Kota Anggerik), Shamsul Iskandar (Bukit Katil), Dr Rodziah Ismail (Batu Tiga), Xavier Jayakumar (Seri Andalas) and Shuhaimi Shafie (Sri Muda).
