MONITORING and surveillance of the Sri Petaling tabligh Covid-19 cluster could end in a week or two, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.
This is because no new infections were detected from the country’s largest Covid-19 cluster today, while the number of active cases from the cluster is only one.
“We hope we can end the monitoring and surveillance of this cluster in a week or two,” Noor Hisham told reporters in Putrajaya today.
He attributed the success of containing the coronavirus in this cluster to the joint effort by the ministry and other agencies in contact-tracing.
He also credited the tabligh participants who cooperated and came forward for screening.
Around 16,000 people were estimated to have attended the religious gathering at the Sri Petaling mosque held over a few days from late February to early March.
It became the country’s largest Covid-19 cluster with up to five generations of infections.
A total of 42,023 samples were taken and 3,375 people tested positive for the coronavirus.
There were also 34 deaths reported from this cluster, while the number of recoveries stood at 3,340. – July 6, 2020.
