THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission today visited the offices of P. Ramasamy and Zairil Khir Johari but both state executive councillors denied they were questioned by the anti-graft agency.

Ramasamy, who is deputy chief minister II, told The Malaysian Insight three MACC officers only came to his office at 10am today, but did not question or take his statement.

“No statement was recorded. They took pictures of the office, talked to my staff, asked for their schedule, and interviewed two of my personal security personnel.

“They didn’t ask me anything,” Ramasamy said.

It was reported the two exco members were believed to have been questioned by the MACC in relation to the undersea tunnel project.

Zairil, who chairs the works, utilities and flood mitigation committee, also confirmed no MACC officers recorded his statement.

“Not true (MACC questioned or recorded statement).

“They (MACC) just came to the office, talked to my assistant and we gave them what they wanted,” Zairil told The Malaysian Insight. 

It is believed the investigation now is in relation to the arrest of former Penang Port Commission chairman Jeffrey Chew, who was previously a special officer to former Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng.

Chew is currently being investigated for alleged graft in relation to the project, which would connect the island to the mainland. – July 3, 2020.
