MALAYSIA today recorded zero local Covid-19 transmissions for the first time since the second wave of Covid-19 cases began on March 2, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He did say there was one new case, but it was imported, a Malaysian returning home from Turkey.

“Today is first day that we have recorded the lowest number of cases for the duration of the pandemic.

“There have also been no transmissions among locals or foreigners,” he said at the ministry’s daily press conference in Putrajaya today.

He said currently there are 144 people receiving treatment for Covid-19, adding that four were in intensive care with two of those needing respiratory support.

It was also the 20th day in which no deaths were recorded, keeping the number of casualties at 121 cases.

Noor Hisham said 21 patients had recovered and were discharged from hospital today.

“This brings the total number of recovered cases to 8,375 or 1.4% of all Covid-19 cases,” he said. – July 1, 2020.
