MEDIA Prima Bhd has issued retrenchment notices to some 300 employees, whose last day of employment is July 31.

In a statement today, the group said it has concluded discussions with representatives of five unions on the execution of the next phase of the organisation’s business transformation plan, which was announced on June 4.

“The discussions aimed to ensure a transparent process, and that all obligations to the affected employees are given the utmost priority.

“All parties understood the need for the business transformation, and agreed to the mechanism of fair and equitable compensation to the affected employees as governed by the law, union collective agreements and employment contracts.”

Media Prima earlier announced that it will undertake the next phase of its transformation due to disruptions to the sector exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“It involves operational changes in selected units to address cost inefficiencies arising from work duplication.

“The transformation is aimed at landing the group on a robust and sustainable business model for the medium and long term.” – Bernama, June 29, 2020.
