PUTRAJAYA seeks to extradite six Malaysians who were arrested in Hong Kong this week for allegedly attempting to smuggle drugs worth HK$4 million (RM2 million), said Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today.
“We have mutual legal assistance (MLA) with China, and Hong Kong is an autonomous Chinese territory.
“The cooperation between the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) with Hong Kong police will involve the returning of the six to our country.
“That’s one of the process in MLA,” he told reporters during a press conference after the Umno Selangor convention in Putra World Trade Centre.
He said the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department will prepare investigation papers to be submitted to the Attorney-General Chambers.
“They will be prosecuted under Act 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act (DDA) or other acts that are related to it (cases involving drugs).
“Action will be taken,” added Zahid.
