PUTRAJAYA today has agreed to allow non-Muslim marriages at places of worship, but with the number of guests limited to 20 people, said Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
However, he said wedding receptions are still forbidden.
“This permission is for non-Muslim weddings at places of worship or at non-Muslim associations (halls), involving assistant registrars.
“This marriage ceremony may not exceed 20 persons including the assistant registrar of marriages, and is subject to the capacity of the houses of worship,” he said in a statement today.
Ismail Sabri added that all wedding ceremonies must comply with standard operating procedures issued by the National Security Council and the Ministry of Health.
Last week, the government allowed non-Muslim places of worship to hold services with certain restrictions, except in red zone areas during the recovery movement control order (RMCO).
The government announced that the places of worship were allowed to operate at one-third capacity, to allow for social distancing.
However, activities such as religious processions, feasts and large gatherings normally difficult to control were prohibited.
Non-Muslim places of worship have been closed since the implementation of the MCO on March 18.
Any form of large gatherings, including weddings, were barred during this period, to stop the spread of Covid-19. – June 21, 2020.
