RECOVERIES from Covid-19 reached 8,000 today, with 127 patients discharged from hospital as of noon, the Health Ministry said.
This puts the number of recoveries at 93.8% of Malaysia’s total infections, Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement.
On new infections today, the country reported 14 new cases, bringing the national toll of infections to 8,529.
Three of the new infections reported are imported cases while 11 involve local transmissions.
Of the local transmissions, seven involved foreigners and four are Malaysians.
Three of the seven foreigners infected in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur were close contacts of a case.
Another two cases involving foreigners were discovered in Sarawak from a screening for construction workers.
The remaining two cases involving foreigners involved a detainee at the Penampang Immigration Detention Centre, and another in Perak, who has applied to return to their country of origin.
Of local transmissions involving Malaysians, two are staff of the Bukit Jalil Immigration Detention Centre.
The other two are of a Malaysian who tested positive during a pre-surgery screening at the Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching, and of another person also in Sarawak who tested positive when doing a pre-travel screening.
There are currently 408 active cases, of which four are in intensive care. No fatalities were reported today, keeping the death toll at 121. – June 18, 2020.
