FEDERAL Territories Minister Annuar Musa wants City Hall (DBKL) to take firm action against foreign traders operating illegally near the Kuala Lumpur wholesale market in Selayang.
He urged Kuala Lumpur Mayor Nor Hisham Ahmad Dhalan to ensure there is consistent enforcement in the area.
“Just don’t do it once and then stop. It must be consistent,” he said, referring to enforcement operations by the city authority.
He said DBKL has confiscated 200 makeshift stalls outside the market.
“There are some who are still carrying out (trading) outside the market. But there are no foreign traders operating in the market,” he said today after visiting a centre for the homeless in Jalan Pahang.
Annuar also urged the traders to upgrade their businesses.
“Sometimes, the problems come from our own people. Some business owners still insist on using old methods and when we want to introduce new technology, new equipment, they are reluctant to accept it.
“But we will showcase the technology and show them its benefits.”
On issues facing pasar malam traders in the city, Annuar said they are welcome to discuss the standard operating procedures with City Hall.
“We can discuss the issues, but they must still adhere to the SOPs by the Health Ministry.” – June 18, 2020.
