THREE members of a family in Bintulu have been infected with Covid-19, said Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Douglas Uggah.
He said the first person detected with the virus was a tertiary student, who was screened as part of the state’s mass testing programme for returning varsity students.
The student had returned home in Bintulu in March before the movement control order was imposed, which was beyond the 14-day incubation period of Covid-19.
But he had received visits from relatives during Hari Raya, and health authorities are now tracing people who had come in contact with the student listed as “case 557” and where the student picked the infection.
The latest infections raised the number of people infected with the virus to 560. So far, 17 people in Sarawak have died.
While no one was discharged from hospital today, Uggah said the recovery rate for Sarawak currently stands at 95.36% with 534 people having recovered and discharged to date.
He said only nine are still receiving treatment – five at the Sarawak general hospital in Kuching and four at the Bintulu hospital. – June 16, 2020.
