PUBLIC transport services can now run at full capacity with no time limit on operating hours, but with certain standard operating procedures (SOPs) in place, said Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The decision was made in a special ministerial meeting following the Transport Ministry’s presentation on SOP on public transport during the recovery movement-control order.
However, this will be subjected to conditions such as the drivers and passengers being required to wear a face mask and the sanitisation of the vehicles after use.
E-hailing and taxi services are also now allowed to operate with no time limit and according to vehicle capacity.
“The (use of the) MySejahtera application to enable contact tracing and cashless payment is encouraged,” he said.
Similarly, express buses are allowed to carry passengers at full capacity. They are required to register their passengers via the MySejahtera app or manually to allow contact tracing in the event of a Covid-19 case being detected.
Bus operators are also required to carry out temperature checks before allowing passengers on board, sell face masks to those who do not have and sanitise the vehicle after the journey ends.
Public buses, ferries, trains, light rail transit, and other modes are also allowed to operate at full capacity.
“For (vehicles) that allow passengers to stand, they are required to self-regulate,” he said.
“The SOPs of, among others, wearing a face mask, downloading the MySejahtera app, and the use of hand sanitiser has to be adhered to at all times,” he added.
Flights are also allowed to operate at full capacity with temperature checks and face masks being made compulsory.
As for private vehicles, passengers who do not belong to the same household are now allowed to travel together according to the capacity of the car.
Previously, only people those in the same household were allowed to travel together in the same vehicle. – June 11, 2020.
