Discussion on reopening of schools tomorrow, says health D-G

THE Health and Education ministries will meet tomorrow to discuss the reopening of schools, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

“We will discuss a suitable date for implementation,” the director-general of health said today.

Parents will be given two weeks to make preparations to send their children back to school, he said, adding that priority will be given to Form 5 and 6 students sitting for major examinations.

“This is our plan but we will discuss at length tomorrow in the meeting with the Education Ministry,” he added.

Education will be among the sectors to reopen, along with social and sports activities under the recovery movement-control order (RMCO) period from June 10 to August 31.

Schools have been shut since the MCO began on March 18.

Malaysia reported seven new Covid-19 infections today, the lowest since the implementation of MCO.

“This is the lowest number of (new) cases recorded so far,” Dr Noor Hisham said.

The new cases bring the total number of infections to 8,329.

Twenty people also recovered today, putting the total number of recoveries at 6,694.

Active cases stand at 1,518 and the death toll remains at 117. – June 8, 2020.
