AN eight-month-old baby was among seven new Covid-19 cases reported today, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The case was detected during a pre-surgical screening at the Sabah Women and Children Hospital in Likas.
“The case involves an eight-month old baby girl who had symptoms and was undergoing surgery,” he said.
As with all positive cases, the Health Ministry will trace close contacts and the family of the child will also be screened, he added.
He said investigation into the case was ongoing.
Malaysia reported a record low number of new infections, with only seven cases, since the implementation of the movement-control order on March 18.
“This is the lowest number of (new) cases recorded so far,” Dr Noor Hisham said at the daily health briefing.
This brings the total number of infections to 8,329.
Meanwhile, 20 people have recovered and have been discharged from hospital as of noon today.
This brings the total number of recoveries to 6,694.
Active cases, on the other hand, stand at 1,518.
Six patients are being treated in the intensive care unit, with one requiring respiratory support.
No fatalities was reported, keeping the death toll at 117. – June 8, 2020.
