MALAYSIA today reported its first Covid-19 fatality in 14 days, bringing the death toll to 116, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.
The deceased was a 61-year old man who had a history of chronic illnesses such as high blood pressure, gout, diabetes and cancer.
The man, who was receiving treatment at the Enche Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital, succumbed to the coronavirus at 10.20pm yesterday.
Meanwhile, the number of new infections stood at 19, after reaching a record high of 277 yesterday.
This brings the total number of infections to 8,266.
As for recoveries, 51 people have been discharged from hospital as of noon today.
This brings the total number of recoveries to 6,610, or 80% of the cumulative total of infections.
Of the 19 new cases reported today, seven cases were imported while 12 were locally transmitted.
Nine of the 12 locally transmitted cases involved locals.
Active cases, on the other hand, stood at 1,540.
Six patients are currently warded at the intensive care units, of which one is receiving breathing support. β June 5, 2020.
