Record high 277 new infections, national toll stands at 8,247

MALAYSIA today reported its highest number of new Covid-19 cases with 277 new infections, bringing the national tally to 8,247, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

According to Noor Hisham, 271 of the total new infections involved foreigners, of which 270 were detected at Bukit Jalil Immigration Detention Centre.

“This was detected from the repeat samples of the detainees who were quarantined in the centre. They were exposed to a previous positive case,” he said.

The other case involving a migrant was detected in Pudu.

Meanwhile, 28 people have recovered and have been discharged from hospitals as of noon today.

This brings the total number of recoveries to 6,559.

On the other hand, there are still 1,573 active cases, while nine patients are being treated in the intensive care units.

No fatalities were reported today, meaning the death toll has been at 115 for almost two weeks. – June 4, 2020.
