ONLY one block of inmates and staff in Sg Buloh Prison are being screened for the coronavirus, said Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
This adds up to about 600 inmates and 700 prison employees who will be tested for infection.
An undocumented immigrant who was detained in the prison had tested positive for the coronavirus late last month when he was transferred to the Semenyih Immigration detention centre.
“There are eight blocks in Sg Buloh prison but only inmates in the affected block are being screened.
“There is no need to screen prisoners in other prisons in the country. There is no outbreak there,” he said today in a daily press conference on the Covid-19 response.
He said visitors are not allowed at the prisons while the movement control order (MCO) is in effect.
Yesterday, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the infected inmate was being treated at the low-risk patient quarantine and treatment centre at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang. – June 2, 2020.
