THERE hasn’t been a post-Raya spike in Covid-19 infections as feared, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

The government is still monitoring the situation before deciding if more sectors should be allowed to open.

That is likely to happen if daily new cases do not increase.

“We were worried there would be a spike in cases after Hari Raya. But it’s already been a week since Hari Raya and there is no drastic increase,” he said.

“We will continue to monitor and advise Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and the National Security Council if this (low number of daily cases) continues.

“Maybe we can give more leeway for other sectors such as social, sports and education to operate,” he said today at a daily press conference on the coronavirus, in Putrajaya.

Noor Hisham said the data showed no drastic increase in virus cases for now.

“We will still monitor the situation in the coming week.

“If the cases remain under control like now, then we will have to discuss this and take the appropriate action.”

Noor Hisham said there were 38 new cases, 51 recoveries and no deaths today.

Of the 38 new cases, 26 were imported and Malaysians.

Six Malaysians and six foreigners made up the remainder, he said.– June 1, 2020.
