AMANAH’S youth wing has lodged a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission report against Prime Minister and Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin over a leaked audio clip that purportedly shows him planning to entice Umno MPs with top posts.
Deputy chief Shazni Munir Mohd Ithnin led the group at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya today.
“The audio recording shows that the leader concerned is using his power in the government to offer GLC (government-linked company) chairmanships in exchange for support to form the Perikatan Nasional government,” he told reporters.
“It is a clear offence under the MACC Act 2009. To date, no individual who has been offered a position has come forward to report the offence.”
DAP youth, too, lodged a report on the matter with MACC in Kuala Lumpur this morning.
National legal bureau chairman Ramkarpal Singh said the anti-graft agency must quickly verify the clip’s authenticity.
The recording, which was released on social media, is said to be of Muhyiddin speaking at a Bersatu supreme council meeting on February 23.
He is heard talking about ways to lure Umno leaders into joining Bersatu and forming the new government, and saying Umno MPs could be persuaded by GLC posts.
A day after the recording was allegedly made, Dr Mahathir Mohamad quit as prime minister and Bersatu chairman, sparking the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government.
He had said his resignation was because Bersatu did not listen to him about staying in PH.
Other recordings from the February 23 supreme council meeting have been leaked in recent weeks, some purportedly showing that Dr Mahathir actually agreed to Bersatu leaving the former ruling pact.
The party founder has denied such claims. – June 1, 2020.
