A COVID-19 cluster of 44 cases has been detected at another construction site in Kuala Lumpur, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
“There is a big possibility that they lived in a confined and small space,” he said of the possible root cause for the spread of the virus, adding that confined and crowded places are conducive for this to happen.
Taking the Masjid India area as an example, he said there were instances where 30 migrants were staying in one unit.
“We don’t have a vaccine yet except for social distancing,” he said in his daily media briefing in Putrajaya today.
Previously, a cluster was detected at a construction site on Jalan Ampang, in Kuala Lumpur.
Another cluster was also found at a Setia Alam construction site in Shah Alam earlier this month.
Malaysia today saw a spike of 172 new cases. Of this, 156 were foreign nationals and 112 were in detention at either Bukit Jalil, Semenyih or Sepang Immigration Detention Centre.
Almost all the cases were in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. – May 25, 2020.
