USING technology, car dealers are able to provide vehicle inspection services that helps to ease Puspakom’s backlog while easing the process.

Federation of Motor and Credit Companies Association of Malaysia (FMCCAM) president Tony Khor said qualified car dealers have the means to conduct vehicle inspections electronically, and even connect in real-time with the Road Transport Department.

The group submitted a memorandum to Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong on Thursday, urging for qualified car dealers to be allowed to perform electronic car inspections as social distancing becomes the norm.

Khor said fully digitised inspections also eliminates issues arising from negligence.

The ezAuto.my platform launched in January enables second-hand car dealers to complete their end of transactions online.

But as the government still requires car inspections to be done at Puspakom, the process is not fully online. That should be the goal, Khor told The Malaysian Insight.

“Some inspections still manually done by Puspakom. But if they can be done with technology, we should do so as going digital can eradicate issues caused by negligence.”

He said the group told Wee that going digital would ensure transparency of the inspection process.

It will also put an end to illegal practices such as falsifying vehicle permits or making illegal vehicle transfers.

Khor said the group offers to help the government identify qualified car dealers who are capable of carrying out digitised inspections and provide training to other dealers.

Currently, 43 car dealers have enrolled to conduct online vehicle inspections and the number is expected to grow to 200, he added.

With all processes related to car purchase done online, Khor said, the buyer only needs to pick up the vehicle or have it delivered at the end of the transaction.

“We hope the Transport Ministry will consider this system that is 100% online.

“It will push the industry into restructuring, and embracing Industry 4.0 and the digital era.” – May 24, 2020.
