48 new Covid-19 cases, almost half from Semenyih immigration depot

MALAYSIA today reported 48 new Covid-19 infections, of which 21 were detected at the immigration detention centre in Semenyih, Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

Of the new infections, four were imported and the remaining 44 were local transmissions.

Of the 44 local transmissions, 25 involved foreigners, of which 21 were found at the immigration depot.

This brings the national toll of Covid-19 to 7,185, the director-general of health told the daily briefing on Covid-19.

Two days ago, Dr Noor Hisham also announced a new Covid-19 cluster at the Bukit Jalil immigration depot, involving 35 infections.

Meanwhile, 53 recovered patients were discharged from hospitals as of noon today, putting the total number of recoveries at 5,192.

There were no deaths reported and the toll remains at 115.

Active cases, meanwhile, number 1,158.

Nine patients are in the intensive care unit, of which five require respiratory support. β€“ May 23, 2020.
