THE Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will call the Youth and Sports Ministry following the latest audit report on government bodies released by the Auditor General’s office.
PAC chairman Hasan Arifin said besides a few ministries, the overall audit performance of federal agencies and ministries showed improvement.
“There are still a few ministries and agencies that have problems and weaknesses and we will call specific ministries that involve the public’s interest, such as Youth and Sports Ministry, which is involved in the building of sports facilities for youth,” he said at the PAC office today.
Hasan said among other ministries that will be called are the Rural and Regional Development Ministry as well as agencies such as the Bintulu Port Authority and Malaysian Venture Capital.
“The (main purpose) is not to look for faults or weaknesses but to ensure improvements for the ministries or government agencies,” said Hasan.
The Rompin MP said 126 agencies were audited without reprimand, 12 were audited without reprimand but received advice, four were reprimanded and one received an objection.
Meanwhile, Auditor General Dr Madinah Mohamad said the chambers always cooperated with all enforcement agencies, such as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), as the audit report is as a serious matter.
“When the Auditor General’s Report is prepared, the Auditor General’s Department does not wait until the presentation by PAC or the auditor general to Parliament,” Madinah said.
“We take action by holding a meeting with enforcement agencies as well as federal government agencies to determine certain violations or carelessness on the part of civil servants for immediate action to be taken.” – November 27, 2017.
