WHILE the conditional movement control order (CMCO) has yielded some success with the growth of new Covid-19 cases remaining in the double digits, the consideration for an exit strategy will depend on the level compliance to standard operating procedures (SOPs), said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today.
He said, despite the easing of restrictions two weeks ago, the number of new infections has remained in the double digits.
“However, the problem we will have to face is the festive season. We will have to monitor whether the number of cases will increase,” he said.
“We are worried that if the public doesn’t comply with the SOPs, the number of cases will increase,” he said, adding the public needed to do and absorb them into their lifestyle.
He said there has to be a high level of compliance before an exit strategy could be considered.
“If there is no compliance, we might extend the CMCO. If there is compliance, and the number of cases remains in double digits, then we can consider a more detailed exit strategy, which the Health Ministry will release,” he added.
Coronavirus cases in the country now total to 6,941. Of these, 5,615 have recovered. – May 18, 2020.
