STUDENTS who have returned to Sabah and Sarawak will have to be screened for Covid-19, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

“For students who have gone to Sabah and Sarawak, they will have to undergo Covid-19 sampling. If the students are tested negative, they will have to be home quarantined,” he said at the Health Ministry’s daily press conference today.

Noor Hisham reiterated that it is mandatory for students who crossed state lines to return home to be quarantined for 14 days.

Between April 27 and yesterday, the Higher Education Ministry has sent 49,019 students back to their hometown.

Noor Hisham said students ought to remember that some of them from universities or colleges had tested positive for Covid-19 after ignoring mandatory home quarantine.

Doing could spread infections among high risk groups such as senior citizens, children and people with a history of chronic illnesses.

Malaysia today reported 47 new Covid-19 cases, 44 recoveries and no new fatalities. The death toll remains at 113.

Coronavirus cases in the country now total 6,941. Of these, 5,615 have recovered. – May 18, 2020.
