THE Health Ministry is focusing on eight targeted groups for Covid-19 testing, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The director-general of health said that 45 laboratories nationwide are currently carrying out the tests.
The eight groups are the Sri Petaling cluster, madrasah and tahfiz schools, enhanced movement-control order areas, wet markets, healthcare workers, overseas returnees, foreign workers and senior citizens.
“We are focusing on the targeted groups. So, we have identified these eight groups.
“At the moment, we have the capacity to carry out 26,673 tests.
“Yesterday, we tested 25,106 samples (94%). What is more important is that we have the capacity to test,” he said at the ministry’s daily press conference in Putrajaya today.
A total of 70 patients have recovered from Covid-19 and been discharged from hospitals, exceeding the 40 new cases reported.
He said 5,351 people have recovered from the virus, while the accumulated number of cases is 6,819.
He said of the 40 new cases, 31 were foreigners while the rest are locals.
“Currently, there are 16 patients in intensive care, four of whom require respiratory support,” he said.
Dr Noor Hisham said one death was reported over the past 24 hours, bringing the national death toll to 112. – May 14, 2020.
