BERSATU’S supreme council has no power to sack any party member, said deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir amid rumours that he and Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be axed from the party.

Sacking of members can only be done by the disciplinary board and only if a complaint was lodged over a breach of party rules.

“An investigation will have be carried out by the board. If wrongdoing was committed, a show-cause letter will follow and the person will be given a chance to defend himself.

“If a penalty is meted out, he can still appeal to the party’s appeals board. It is clear that the supreme council cannot sack anyone,” Mukhriz said at a press conference in Alor Star today. – May 13, 2020.
