DISCOUNTS on water usage after flash floods in Penang earlier this month will be shown on the bill beginning next month, the state’s water supply corporation said.
Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) chief executive officer Jaseni Maidinsa said the discount for November would not appear on the bills meter readers issued on the spot.
The discounts, he said, would appear in the bill in the next few months because the PBAPP needed to work out the discount for each individual consumer.
“PBAPP needs to compute each individual consumer’s consumption before applying the correct amount to be discounted.
“Please note that the billing cycles for various groups and categories of water consumers in Penang are different,” he said in a statement today.
There are different billing cycles for Penang’s 589,797 registered water consumers.
Depending on the water billing cycle, the discounts will appear on bills in January to March next year.
The billing cycle for domestic consumers is bi-monthly (once every 2 months), while the billing cycle for trade consumers may be monthly or bi-monthly.
Water meters of different groups of consumers located in the various areas in Penang are read by PBAPP water meter readers at different times.
As such, different consumers also receive their water bills at different times.
As part of the “Pulau Pinang Bangkit” (Penang Bounce Back) programme to help the people recover from the worst flood incident in 30 years, PBAPP announced water bill discounts to lessen the burden on flood victims using a lot of water to clean their homes.
It is giving all domestic consumers a 50% discount off their bills, and a commercial consumers a 25% discount for one cycle.
PBAPP is also waiving the water conservation surcharge for one cycle for domestic consumers.
Jaseni also said PBAPP’s “Pulau Pinang Bangkit” water bill discounts will be automatically generated and printed on PBAPP water bills.
“There is no need for the public to apply for the discount,” he said. – November 25, 2017.
