THE Health Ministry will take 10 days to conduct Covid-19 screenings on all 2,900 residents in the areas surrounding the Jalan Othman wet market in Petaling Jaya, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The area has been put under the enhanced movement-control order (EMCO) effective today until May 23 after 27 Covid-19 cases were detected in the area.

He said residents there must remain calm and stay indoors as help will arrive.

“It will take 10 days of investigation. I would like to advise the residents to stay at home, protect the elderly and stay calm. Hopefully by carrying out active case detection, we will be able to identify the positive cases among the residents.

“And if there are positive cases, we must quickly identify the close contacts (made by the patients) and quarantine them in quarantine centres.”

Noor Hisham assured that residents will be assisted during the period and the ministry has seen previous successes from other EMCOs. – May 10, 2020.
