A MALL in Cheras, where security guards tested positive for Covid-19, has been ordered to close, said Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The senior minister said two other areas – a poultry factory in Negri Sembilan and a construction site in Jalan Ampang – have also been ordered to close.

“If their workers are infected, then on advice from the Health Ministry the premises will be closed.

“Authorities will then carry out screening on all their workers and sanitise the premises,” he said at the ministry’s daily press conference in Putrajaya today.

However, he did not name the mall.

On Thursday, the Health Ministry identified a new Covid-19 cluster, involving security personnel at the mall.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 10 cases – nine Nepalis and a Malaysian – have been reported in the cluster.

Of the 436 people tested, 10 are positive for the coronavirus and 347 negative, while 79 are awaiting their results.

“The Cheras and Titiwangsa district health offices will continue to monitor this cluster,” said Dr Noor Hisham.

Ismail said the CMCO task force had conducted 46,086 inspections yesterday, to monitor and enforce compliance with the standard operating procedure nationwide.

A total of 3,713 supermarkets, 3,073 restaurants and 1,244 factories and 1,705 banks were inspected. – May 9, 2020.
