MALAYSIANS who lost their income while undergoing treatment or being quarantined for Covid-19 will be compensated RM100 a day, said Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The senior minister said those eligible are those who were isolated at hospitals or government facilities during the 14-day period.
“There are two groups which are those who worked but lost their source of income or were not paid for the duration of the 14-day quarantine period.
“And also those who worked but lost their source of income or were not paid during their period of treatment at the hospital wards due to virus,” he said at the ministry’s daily press conference in Putrajaya today.
He also said that those who are at home because of the movement control order (MCO) are not eligible for this assistance.
Ismail Sabri said the Covid-19 fund, which was launched by Prime Minister Muhiyiddin Yassin, has raised RM40 million through various donations.
He said the Special Disability Assistance amounting to RM125,700 had been provided to 94 individuals.
“In addition, RM5,000 was also given to all of the beneficiaries whose loved ones died as a result of Covid-19.
“It has been provided to 71 beneficiaries at a total of RM355,000.”
He also said RM25 million has been donated to the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry through the National Welfare Foundation to assist needy Malaysian citizens. – May 9, 2020.
