PENANG is the latest state to be declared coronavirus-free with all five districts reporting zero active cases as of noon yesterday.

Health Ministry data shows it is the fifth state to achieve green status after Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan and Perak.

Penang has reported 121 Covid-19 cases.

Meanwhile, Petaling Jaya is once more a red zone after the number of active cases in the city jumped to 52 from 39.

The city’s status has switched between red and yellow as the number of active cases fluctuate.

As of noon yesterday, there are 10 red zones and 80 yellow zones. Green zones increased to 111.

Districts with more than 40 cases are labelled red; 20-40 orange; and 1-19 yellow. A green zone is infection-free.

After two days of triple-digit growth in infections, new Covid-19 cases yesterday dropped to 55 with no deaths.

Seven of the new infections were imported.

Total cases stand at 6,353 and the death toll, at 105.

Amid a general easing of movement control restrictions, three more areas in the capital were placed under an enhanced movement control order (EMCO).

Jalan Raja Bot, near the Chow Kit Market, and two housing estates – Taman Desa Bakti and Taman Wilayah – in Selayang are the three places in lockdown.

Army personnel were seen late yesterday night putting up razor wire barricades in those areas. – May 5, 2020.
