THE Health Ministry has listed a new cluster of Covid-19 infections at Taman BDC in Kuching, where 37 people have been infected with the novel coronavirus.
Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said two of the patients have passed away, seven have recovered and 28 still being treated.
The new cluster can be traced to the three-day tabligh gathering at the Sri Petaling mosque from February 27 to March 3 in Kuala Lumpur, he said.
“The index case is actually from the Seri Petaling gathering. They have infected three generations (of patients), mainly family members, mosque goers and also their colleagues.”
Of the 16,000 people who attended the five-day event, about 14,500 are Malaysians with the remainder foreigners from 25 countries.
So far, 2,266 people have been infected via the tabligh cluster, which accounts for 35% of all Covid-19 infections, which today stands at 6,353 cases.
There are a total of 31 clusters nationwide, the largest of which is the tabligh cluster in Sri Petaling.
Meanwhile, regarding the cluster of six infections at the Tahfiz school in Lanchang, Pahang, Noor Hisham said ministry officials are still investigating its source.
Noor Hisham said areas under enhanced movement control order would continue to be monitored, adding that the Selangor Mansion and Malaysian Mansion buildings in Kuala Lumpur reported two and one new case respectively.
“We’ll always monitor the areas even after the enhanced MCO has ended,” he said.
Ten states reported zero new cases today, including Sarawak, it’s first since March 13. Putrajaya and Labuan also reported no new cases.
Kuala Lumpur saw 25 new cases, followed by Selangor, which saw 21 new cases, four of which were imported.
This is followed by Negri Sembilan 6(1) and Malacca 3(2). – May 4, 2020.
