New infections fall back to double digits with 55 cases

AFTER two days of triple-digit growth in infections, the number of new Covid-19 cases dropped to 55 in the last 24 hours, said Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Seven of the new infections were imported, while the remaining 48 were local transmissions, bringing the total number of cases to 6,353.

Noor Hisham said 71 patients have recovered, taking the number of recoveries to 4,484.

“The recovery rate so far is 70.6%,” he said.

No deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, leaving the death toll from the virus at 105.

Based on the number of detected cases reported by the national Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC), Dr Noor Hisham reported the fatality rate at 1.65%.

He said there are currently 28 patients who are in intensive care and 13 of them are on ventilators. – May 4, 2020.
