TWO members of a family are allowed to travel together to buy goods during the movement-control order (MCO) period, according to the latest federal gazette.

They can go out within a 10km radius of home to purchase food, medicine, dietary supplements and other items from essential-service providers.

Travel to the closest store beyond 10km is allowed if the goods are not available within the stipulated area.

“He may be accompanied by one family member staying in the same house,” said the order under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988, signed by Health Minister Dr Adham Baba and dated April 28.

Dr Adham confirmed the matter to The Malaysian Insight.

“Yes,” he said in a text message.

A person may be accompanied by another – not necessarily family – during travel to seek healthcare services.

“His movement shall only be to a place within a radius of not more than 10km from his residence, or to a place nearest to his residence if such healthcare or medical services are not available within the 10km radius,” said the gazette.

“He may be accompanied by any other person as may be reasonably necessary.”

For those travelling to perform an official duty, provide essential services or procure essential services other than those stipulated in the gazette, they are required to produce an authorisation letter to the officials on duty.
