THE Ministry of Health today said 341 people from madrasah and tahfiz schools have been infected with Covid-19, out of 6,229 tested for the virus.
This is based on a targeted approach undertaken by the ministry in high-risk areas.
Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said tests were carried out on teachers, students and staff at madrasah and tahfiz schools as of April 25.
“This shows immediate action by the government is showing results.
“We hope to prevent infections in high risks groups. We expect to identify more cases in the near future as we focus on them,” he said at the ministry’s daily press conference in Putrajaya today.
Previously, Noor Hisham had said the ministry was ramping up its screening of tahfiz schools to curb the spread of Covid-19.
He said authorities had received information that more than 8,600 tahfiz students may have come into contact with Covid-19 carriers.
Dr Noor Hisham said 100 patients have recovered from Covid-19 and been discharged from hospitals, a figure nearly triple that of the 38 new cases reported over the past 24 hours.
He also said that there were no reported deaths from the coronavirus during that time period, with the cumulative death toll remaining 98.
Dr Noor Hisham also said 3,862 people have recovered from the virus, while the accumulated number of cases is now 5,780. – April 26, 2020.
