ALL 60 traders at Taman Megah morning market in Petaling Jaya will have to go for Covid-19 tests after one of their number tested positive for the virus, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said the traders will have to undergo screening as part of the ministry’s active case and close contact detection.
“We have closed the market because we consider this close contact for the traders.
“We hope to be able to detect anyone who is associated with the trader,” he said at the ministry’s daily press conference in Putrajaya today.
He said the infected trader contracted with the virus when he went to get his supplies at Selayang wholesale market.
The Taman Megah morning market is closed until further notice.
Dr Noor Hisham also said that those who visited the market and have come into close contact with others should get tested.
“(If) they have had close contact, then only do they need to do testing. What is more important is we want to encourage them to avoid public gatherings; distancing is very important.
“Make sure they continue to wash their hands from one stall to another. This is the new norm that we need to make sure that we take all precautionary measures and maintain good hygiene.”
It was reported that another market in Bahau, Negri Sembilan, was also closed today after a trader tested positive for Covid-19.
Dr Noor Hisham said the Bahau trader is from the Kuala Lumpur wholesale market cluster, who had travelled from the market back to Bahau to run his business.
“This is not a new cluster and the ministry considers the Bahau trader to be part of the Kuala Lumpur wholesale market cluster.” – April 26, 2020.
