THE Ministry of Health said today laboratories have increased their processing capacity and can now carry out 16,385 Covid-19 tests a day.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said yesterday labs conducted 14, 967 tests.

“Our capacity to carry out tests has increased. Next week we are getting 200,000 antigen rapid test kits from South Korea.

“This could increase the tests to 20,000 a day,” he said at the ministry’s daily press conference in Putrajaya today.

Noor Hisham said this capacity is sufficient for the time being.

The laboratory network has now been expanded to include 43 facilities from the public and private sectors, and universities.

Noor Hisham said 99 patients have recovered from Covid-19 and been discharged from hospitals, exceeding the 51 new cases reported.

He said there were two deaths reported over the past 24 hours, bringing the national death toll to 98. – April 25, 2020.
