THE Health Ministry has said 14,187 foreign workers have been screened with 676 testing positive for Covid-19.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the ministry was targeting the high-risk groups that attended the Sri Petaling mosque tabligh.

“We are taking a targeted approach and looking at foreigners who have exposure, for example, the tabligh event.

“We believe that these two groups (tabligh and foreign workers) are our target and not every group of foreign workers,” he said at the ministry’s daily press conference in Putrajaya today.

Noor Hisham said the combination of the two groups precipitated the enhanced the movement control order at Menara City One, Selangor, and Malayan Mansion and around Masjid India.

He said this is because the index case has been exposed to the tabligh event at Sri Petaling.

“That’s the reason why we are focusing on these areas, and not for all foreigners, because the high-risks groups have exposure to the tabligh event.

“We also mentioned about the high number of foreign workers because they also have attended the gathering.”

Selangor Mansion and nearby Malayan Mansion in the Masjid India area were placed under enhanced MCO on April 7 after 15 Covid-19 cases were detected there.

About 5,000 people live in the 365 residential units and are in lockdown.

At Menara City One the enhanced MCO started on March 31 at the complex on Jalan Munshi Abdullah, involving 3,200 residents in 502 units.

Noor Hisham said 99 patients have recovered from Covid-19 and been discharged from hospitals, exceeding the 51 new cases reported.

He said there were two deaths reported over the past 24 hours, bringing the national death toll to 98. – April 25, 2020.
