4 Sarawak divisions declared green zones

Deputy Chief Minister Douglas Uggah Embas says another 17 coronavirus patients in Sarawak have been discharged, bringing total recoveries in the state to 148. – April 24, 2020.

FOUR of Sarawak’s 12 administrative divisions have been declared Covid-19 green zones, said Deputy Chief Minister Douglas Uggah Embas today.

The state Disaster Management Committee chairman said Mukah, Sarikei, Sibu and Limbang – covering 14 districts – have not recorded a positive case in the last 14 days.

The districts under Mukah are Mukah, Dalat, Daro, Matu and Tanjung Manis; Sarikei (Sarikei, Meradong, Julau and Pakan); Sibu (Sibu, Kanowit, and Selangau); and, Limbang (Limbang and Lawas).

Green zones are areas with no coronavirus cases, yellow (1 to 19), orange (20 to 40) and red (41 and above).

There are two red zones in Sarawak, namely Kuching and Samarahan districts.

Uggah urged Sarawakians not to take the improving situation for granted.

“We are still fighting to break the Covid-19 chain of transmissions,” he told a daily briefing on the outbreak.

He said 50 healthcare workers on the Covid-19 front line in the state have been infected.

All are from Kuching, he said, adding that they did not contract the virus at their workplace.

Twenty of them were infected by a positive case in the Kuching church conference cluster, while the rest were from various smaller clusters, he said.

Sarawak today detected nine new Covid-19 infections, seven of them in Kuching, and one each in Samarahan and Serian.

Uggah said another 17 patients have been discharged, bringing total recoveries in the state to 148.

Of those discharged today, 12 are from Kuching, Samarahan (4) and Betong (1). – April 24, 2020.
