SIBU and Sarikei in central Sarawak have been declared Covid-19 green zones after 14 days without new infections.
This brings the number of such areas in the state to 28.
The development comes on a day when the state’s most populous district, Kuching – one of Sarawak’s two red zones, the other being Samarahan – also reported no fresh cases.
Red zones are those with more than 40 coronavirus cases.
Miri, with one new infection, moved out of the yellow zone into orange, with 12 active cases.
Sarawak registered four new cases today, the lowest daily figure since March 25, announced Deputy Chief Minister and state Disaster Management Committee chairman Douglas Uggah Embas.
This brings the state’s tally to 459.
Sixteen patients have died, while 131 have been discharged from hospital, including 27 today. Twenty-one were discharged from Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching, Miri Hospital (3), Sibu Hospital (2) and Bintulu Hospital (1).
Uggah said the spike in patients under investigation, from 155 yesterday to 257 today, is due to contact-tracing efforts involving some 2,500 individuals. – April 23, 2020.
